Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Blue Cougars vs. Bangor Rams

Mt. Blue is 0-8-1 against Bangor since May of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Cougars will welcome the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Mt. Blue is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Mt. Blue didn't have quite enough to beat Brunswick and fell 6-5.

Mt. Blue got a good showing from Brayden Simmons, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Simmons has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mt. Blue saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Smith, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Ben Wrigley was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Bangor got the win against Messalonskee on Wednesday by a conclusive 19-7. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Bangor's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Mt. Blue, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
