Football Recap: Marietta Comes Up Short

Marietta's last matchup with Hillgrove could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. The Blue Devils were beaten by the Hawks 34-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Blue Devils have suffered against the Hawks since October 26, 2018.

Jayden Whiteside threw for 45 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Jordan Adams rushed for 38 yards.

Hillgrove got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Donovan Mack out in front who threw for 171 yards and three TDs on only ten passes, and also rushed for 36 yards and one score. Those 171 passing yards gave Mack a new career-high. Jaiden Moore was another key rusher, gaining 159 total yards.

Marietta is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4. As for Hillgrove, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Looking ahead, Marietta will face off against Wheeler at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Hillgrove, they will welcome Osborne at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Hawks' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
