Basketball Recap: West Valley's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

West Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 65-50 win over the Yreka Miners. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 59-43 back in January.

West Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Morgan Wiley, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Wiley a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Rainessa Matthews, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 17 boards.

West Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive matchups.

Several Miners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bailee Houston, who posted 22 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Murieen, who had seven points in addition to nine boards and four steals.

West Valley's record is now 14-10. As for Yreka, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-14.

West Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-45 win against Anderson on the 11th. As for Yreka, they have also already played their next game, a 71-57 victory against Lassen on the 11th.
