Preview: Gompers Prep Academy Eagles vs. Mountain Empire Redhawks
The Gompers Prep Academy Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Mountain Empire Redhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Thursday, Gompers Prep Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 30-25 to High Tech NC.
The losing side was boosted by Kamariyah Mccollough, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadia Mohamed, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Mountain Empire's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 64-12 loss at the hands of High Tech SD. While losing is never fun, Mountain Empire can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1279th, while High Tech SD is ranked 530th).
Mountain Empire's defeat came about despite a quality game from Carli McGhee, who scored eight points. That was a full 66.7% of Mountain Empire's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Gompers Prep Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Mountain Empire, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-10.
Gompers Prep Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Mountain Empire in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 23-18 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gompers Prep Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
