Baseball Recap: Athens Comes Up Short

Athens had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-9 to make it four. They came up short against the Pleasant Plains Cardinals, falling 13-3. The Warriors were not able to make up for their loss to the Cardinals from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

Wyatt Gleason was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Pleasant Plains, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

On Pleasant Plains' side, Drew Green made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Green has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Johnson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Greyson Dodd was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athens will welcome New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pleasant Plains, they will host Macomb at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
