Preview: Wheatland Pirates vs. Sutter Huskies
Wheatland has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Sutter Huskies at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Wheatland suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were dealt a 76-28 defeat at the hands of Colfax. Wheatland has struggled against Colfax recently, as their game on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Sutter won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Marysville at home and fell 68-39. While losing is never fun, Sutter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 617th, while Marysville is ranked 208th).
Torrence Harter put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season.
Wheatland has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Sutter, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Wheatland opened the new year with a less-than-successful 40-29 loss to Sutter. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Harter, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, 11 rebounds, and 11 blocks.
