Basketball Recap: El Rancho Takes a Loss

El Rancho has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Spring Valley Grizzlies. While losing is never fun, the Dons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 309th in California, while the Grizzlies are ranked 16th in Nevada).

El Rancho lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Emma Gonzalez, who posted ten points along with five assists and five rebounds. That's the most boards Gonzalez has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Carissa Basurto, who put up ten points and five rebounds.

Spring Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mia Ervin out in front who went 7 of 16 on her way to 19 points and six rebounds. Mckenyia Pittman was another key player, going 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points and five rebounds.

El Rancho's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Spring Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

El Rancho and Paramount will face off at 12:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Spring Valley, they and Cimarron-Memorial will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
