Football Recap: Wingate Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Wingate's offense. They were outmatched by the Thoreau Hawks and fell 48-0. Having soared to a lofty 53 points in the game before, the Bears' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Wingate didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Matthew Whitehair and Riley Morgan. Whitehair is crushing it when it comes to interceptions: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Wingate's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3. As for Thoreau, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Wingate does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Thoreau, they are taking a road trip to take on Crownpoint at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.44 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
