Wingate dropped down to 7-3 on Friday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins. They were beaten by the Thoreau Hawks 48-0. The shutout was out of character for the Bears seeing as the last time the team failed to score was  back in August.
 Wingate's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess:  Matthew Whitehair and  Riley Morgan, who each picked up one  interception apiece.
As for Thoreau, the  win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. Those  victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 2.3 points on average over those games.
  Irvin Tom had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 65 yards and one  score on only eight carries, and also picked up 30 receiving yards and one  touchdown.  Aiden Woody was another key player, throwing for 160 yards and three  TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes.
 Wingate does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Thoreau, they are taking a road trip to  face off against Crownpoint  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. The Hawks will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.44  points per  matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
