Baseball Game Preview: Paulding County Patriots vs. Rome Wolves

Paulding County hasn't had much luck against Rome recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Paulding County Patriots will be playing at home against the Rome Wolves at 5:55 p.m.

On Thursday, Paulding County didn't have quite enough to beat Bremen and fell 9-8.

Liam Garrett was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. Paulding County is 2-1 when Garrett posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson McEntyre, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rome). They put the hurt on Gordon Central with a sharp 12-6 victory on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolves considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Bryce Patty made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. He also got two hits, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Slatky, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Costlow, who scored three runs while going 1-for-4.

Rome hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gordon Central struck out ten times.

Paulding County's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Rome, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-5.

Paulding County beat Rome 10-5 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Does Paulding County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rome turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
