Football Game Preview: New Canaan Rams vs. Staples Wreckers

The New Canaan Rams will venture away from home to face off against the Staples Wreckers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. New Canaan is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Saturday, New Canaan took their contest with ease, bagging a 42-7 win over Stamford. The Rams' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Henry Stein had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 131 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries, while also catching one touchdown. Maddox Hoffman was another key player, throwing for 90 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: New Canaan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Meanwhile, Staples faced St. Joseph in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wreckers came up short against the Cadets, falling 27-6. Having soared to a lofty 49 points in the game before, the Wreckers couldn't push the score so high this time.

New Canaan's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Staples, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.

New Canaan beat Staples 23-10 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
