Soccer Game Preview: Wayne County vs. Effingham County

The Wayne County Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to take on the Effingham County Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wayne County is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Wayne County who was credited with the victory on Friday. The Yellow Jackets got it done in the shootout by posting five goals to Camden County's four.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Effingham County's offense. They came up short against Glynn Academy on Wednesday, falling 6-0. While losing is never fun, Effingham County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Glynn Academy are ranked 41st).

Wayne County pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those six matches. As for Effingham County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Wayne County suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Effingham County when the teams last played back in February of 2015. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
