Preview: Sunny Hills Lancers vs. Sonora Raiders
Sunny Hills is 2-8 against Sonora since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Sunny Hills Lancers will head out on the road to face off against the Sonora Raiders at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Sunny Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday.
Sunny Hills posted their closest victory since December 2, 2023 on Friday. They had just enough and edged Troy out 43-40. The victory was just what Sunny Hills needed coming off of a 69-25 defeat in their prior game.
Sunny Hills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Natalie Do, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Erin Choi, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sonora came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against La Habra by a score of 50-40.
Sunny Hills is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. As for Sonora, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-11.
Sunny Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Sonora in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, sneaking past 44-41. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sonora's Kiana Graham, who scored 15 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Sunny Hills still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
