Softball Recap: York Has No Trouble Against Lexington

While York put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Lexington. The Dukes were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Minutemen. The Dukes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Kynlee Westwood made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, York let Ayanna Miller and Taytum Methe run wild. Miller went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Methe got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Mira Garrett, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

York was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive contests.

York has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lexington, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-22.

York is on the road again on Thursday to play Lakeview at 12:00 p.m. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Dukes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lexington, they will challenge Northwest at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Minutemen's pitcher better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
