Baseball Recap: Southwest Georgia Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Southwest Georgia Academy dropped their record down to 20-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's ten-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Brookstone Cougars, falling 12-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Warriors have suffered since March 29, 2024.

As for Brookstone, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-5. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 12 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Brookstone's part, Brennan Neal and Luke Lowery made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Neal pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lowery pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Neal has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Neal went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Lowery went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most RBI Neal has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mercer Hudson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Gray Jones, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
