Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Brianna Elgan and Johanna Thames Lead Yucaipa to Victory

Yucaipa picked up another tournament win on Thursday. They ended the year with a bang, routing the Bell Gardens Lancers 57-34. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 374th, while the Lancers are ranked 984th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Yucaipa to victory were Johanna Thames and Brianna Elgan. Thames dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 boards, while Elgan dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. The game was Thames' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sudi Rana, who posted five points.

The win got Yucaipa back to even at 7-7. As for Bell Gardens, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season.

Yucaipa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 81-25 loss against Sierra Canyon on the 27th. As for Bell Gardens, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-25 defeat against Glendora on the 27th.
