Two dominant backs in Piercen Huff and Carson Vineyard are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Central Christian Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Argonia/Attica Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Central Christian comes in on five and Argonia/Attica on three.
Central Christian's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 46-0 victory over St. Paul. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Indians are ranked 54th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Konnor Sullivan produced another solid effort rushing for 105 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Central Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 220 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Argonia/Attica was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Fairfield 48-18. The Titans pushed the score to 36-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Falcons had little chance of recovering from.
Central Christian better keep an eye on Maddex Hemberger. He was instrumental in Argonia/Attica's win, throwing for 154 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes.
Argonia/Attica didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Konner Nelson and Garrett Morrison.
Central Christian's record is now 5-0. As for Argonia/Attica, their record now sits at 4-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Central Christian has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 289 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Argonia/Attica struggles in that department as they've been averaging 178.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Central Christian strolled past Argonia/Attica in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 28-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
