Baseball Game Preview: Sandy Creek Patriots vs. Southwest DeKalb Panthers

The Sandy Creek Patriots will face off against the Southwest DeKalb Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Sandy Creek is looking for their season's first win.

Sandy Creek came up into this matchup off a tough 15-run defeat on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Tucker by a score of 13-11 on Saturday.

Grant Housley put in work no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Ethan Campbell stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Caleb Jones was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Sandy Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Southwest DeKalb lost 11-4 to Paideia on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered against the Pythons since February 15, 2020.

Southwest DeKalb saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kameron Scott, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases. Scott is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stolen at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another was Larry McCuller, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Southwest DeKalb now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Sandy Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6-1.
