Basketball Recap: Mammoth Comes Up Short

Mammoth was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Trona Tornadoes. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tornadoes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Mammoth lost, don't look at Esme Carrillo. Despite the final result, she posted 20 points in addition to five assists and four steals. That was a full 43.5% of Mammoth's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julianne Bassler, who scored ten points and four steals.

Mammoth's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Trona, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5.

Mammoth didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 32-13 victory against Frazier Mountain on the 17th. Trona has also already played their next game, a 2-0 win against Lone Pine on the 21st.
