Recap: Central Spartans vs. San Ysidro Cougars
The Central Spartans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2023 than the 70-34 stomp they got on the road against San Ysidro. That 70-34 margin sets a new team best for Central this season.
Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Janelle Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Thomas scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Victoria Zamora, who scored 14 points.
San Ysidro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kristine Fadriquela, who scored 16 points. Natalie Martinez was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Central and bumps their season record up to 4-6. As for San Ysidro, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-9.
Central is on the road again on Thursday and play against Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Allowing an average of 53.2 points per game, Montgomery has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest. San Ysidro won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Calexico at 2:00 p.m. on December 28, 2023.
