Basketball Game Preview: William Penn Bearcats vs. Red Lion Lions

William Penn is 2-8 against Red Lion since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the William Penn Bearcats face off against the Red Lion Lions at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Monday, William Penn strolled past Cedar Cliff with points to spare, taking the game 31-16. The 31-point effort marked the Bearcats' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Meanwhile, Red Lion hadn't done well against Central York recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Red Lion snuck past Central York with a 46-41 win. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Panthers are ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

William Penn now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Red Lion, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-1.

William Penn came up short against Red Lion in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 54-49. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Red Lion's Bekah Sedora, who went 7 of 16 en route to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.
