Baseball Recap: Alexander Wins Going Away Against Rome

Alexander got themselves on the board against Rome on Wednesday, but Rome never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Wolves. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won three in a row.

Ethan Lower looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Micah Green, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Alexander's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Josh Sellers, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Alexander's victory bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Rome, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-12.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Alexander Cougars challenge Villa Rica Wildcats at 5:55 p.m. on Friday. Villa Rica will roll in looking for their 20th straight win, something Alexander surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rome, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Paulding at 5:55 p.m. on Friday.
