Baseball Game Preview: Champaign Central Maroons vs. Glenwood Titans

The Champaign Central Maroons will challenge the Glenwood Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Champaign Central sitting on 15 straight victories and Glenwood on three.

Seven must be Champaign Central's lucky number: they beat Normal West with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Maroons beat the Wildcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-1. The Maroons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 24 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Glenwood had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They skirted past the Braves 2-1.

Cole Woodward was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Quinten Hale, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colten Knoedler, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Glenwood's win bumped their record up to 24-8. As for Champaign Central, their victory bumped their record up to 32-6.

Champaign Central skirted past Glenwood 1-0 in their previous meeting back in June of 2023. Do the Maroons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
