Football Recap: West Mesa Takes a Loss

If West Mesa was feeling good fresh off their 55-14 takedown of Atrisco Heritage Academy last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs fell 34-27 to the Albuquerque Bulldogs on Friday. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, West Mesa still got an impressive performance from Victor Aguilar Jr., who rushed for 102 yards and three scores. Aguilar Jr.'s rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 102 rushing yards.

Alberto Landeros produced another solid effort rushing for 286 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.3 yards per carry for Albuquerque. The Bulldogs are 3-1 when Landeros posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Madera, who rushed for 67 yards on only nine carries.

West Mesa has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Albuquerque, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

West Mesa didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-0 defeat against Sandia on the 16th. As for Albuquerque, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 17-14 victory against Eldorado on the 16th.
