Basketball Recap: Winside Comes Up Short

Winside had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it ten. They were outmatched by the Crofton Warriors and fell 63-24. The Wildcats were down 52-20 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Winside saw an underclassman step up: freshman Aftyn Schutt almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Schutt is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.

As for Crofton, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

It was another big night for Jaisie Janssen, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacee Anthony, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 13 points and five boards.

Winside and Wakefield will round out the year against one another at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Crofton, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against O'Neill on January 2, 2026. The Warriors' defense better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 59 points per game this season.
