Softball Recap: St. Michael the Archangel Comes Up Short

St. Michael the Archangel had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 12-9 to make it five. They came up short against the Truman Patriots, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Guardians' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Truman, they now have a winning record of 8-7. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Truman's part, they got a great performance from Piper Fatool as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Fatool has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Truman let Haylee Parker and Tori Shearer run wild. Parker went a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases and four runs, while Shearer got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Parker is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Mora, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI.

Looking ahead, St. Michael the Archangel will square off against Raytown South at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.08 runs per game on average), something the Guardians will no doubt try to take advantage of. Truman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
