Basketball Game Preview: Arcata Tigers vs. Fortuna Huskies

Arcata is 9-1 against Fortuna since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Arcata Tigers will take on the Fortuna Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Fortuna took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Arcata, who comes in off a win.

Fortuna will be up against a hot Arcata team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Arcata strolled past Del Norte with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 61-43. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Warriors are ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mae Wolford was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. She has been hot, having also posted four or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tae Wolford, who posted eight points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Fortuna came up short against Del Norte on Tuesday and fell 49-42. The Huskies have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Fortuna's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Arcata, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-6.

Everything came up roses for Arcata against Fortuna in their previous meeting on January 9th, as the team secured a 60-33 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Arcata since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
