Basketball Recap: Patriot Comes Up Short

After flying high against Rubidoux last Tuesday, Patriot came back down to earth. The Patriot Warriors were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 46-45 to the La Sierra Eagles. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 14-9 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Patriot lost, don't look at Kayla Gonzalez. Despite the final result, she posted 25 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The contest was Gonzalez's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karla Hernandez, who earned five points in addition to seven boards and six steals.

Even though they lost, Patriot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Patriot's loss dropped their record down to 14-12. As for La Sierra, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Patriot will head out to take on Jurupa Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Patriot is facing Jurupa Valley at the right time seeing as Jurupa Valley is stuck on a five-game losing streak. La Sierra has already played their next game (against Norte Vista), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
