St. Johns hasn't had much luck against Round Valley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Redskins will head out to square off against the Elks at 2:00 p.m. St. Johns has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
St. Johns saw some tournament action on Friday. They came up short against Prescott, falling 14-4.
St. Johns saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyvia Richardson, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Richardson's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Round Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Poston Butte on Friday, taking the game 9-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Elks.
Ryan Jaramillo made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Jaramillo was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Kelci Walker was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brentley Finch, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Round Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive games.
Round Valley's record is now 10-2. As for St. Johns, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. St. Johns hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Round Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Johns might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from Round Valley in their previous meeting on Friday. Can the Redskins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
