Softball Game Preview: Maquoketa Cardinals vs. Monticello Panthers

The Maquoketa Cardinals are taking a road trip to square off against the Monticello Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Maquoketa will be strutting in after a victory while Monticello will be coming in after a defeat.

Maquoketa was handed a eight-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Hudson 7-6.

Meanwhile, Monticello came up short against Northeast on Thursday and fell 6-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Rebels: they've now lost five in a row.

Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Maquoketa, their win bumped their record up to 11-18.

Maquoketa came out on top in a nail-biter against Monticello in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
