Baseball Recap: Pinecrest Academy's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Pinecrest Academy barely beat Lanier Christian Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Pinecrest Academy blew past Lanier Christian Academy 20-5 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Paladins, who have now won nine games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Charles Dodson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Pinecrest Academy let Matthew Mitchell and Liam McCavitt run wild. Mitchell got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while McCavitt got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave McCavitt a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Chupp, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Pinecrest Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win was the fifth in a row for Pinecrest Academy, bringing their record up to 12-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Lanier Christian Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.

Pinecrest Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Horizon Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on April 8. As for Lanier Christian Academy, they will challenge Trinity Classical at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lanier Christian Academy is facing Trinity Classical at the right time seeing as Trinity Classical is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
