Basketball Recap: Vincent Memorial Makes It 11 in a Row at Home

Vincent Memorial had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They strolled past the Calexico Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 56-41. Given the Scots' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 817th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Vincent Memorial's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paola Longoria, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Longoria also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dafne Borunda, who posted 14 points and four steals.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jolette Duran, who scored 14 points. Leslie Herrera was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Vincent Memorial's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Calexico, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Vincent Memorial has already played their next contest, a 47-31 loss against Imperial on the 16th. As for Calexico, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 47-39 win against Palo Verde Valley on the 16th.
