Baseball Game Preview: Lakeside Panthers vs. Thomson Bulldogs

The Lakeside Panthers will square off against the Thomson Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Wednesday, Lakeside didn't have quite enough to beat Grovetown and fell 5-4. The loss was the Panthers' first of the season.

Josh Lombardo was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Peyton Grizzle made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Thomson was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They came up short against Swainsboro, falling 8-2.

Thomson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalton Gergen, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Another was Logan Robinson, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Lakeside fell to 2-1. As for Thomson, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
