Basketball Preview: Newport Buffaloes vs. Juniata Indians
Newport is 0-10 against the Indians since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Newport Buffaloes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Juniata Indians at 7:30 p.m. Newport has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28.
Last Friday, Newport came up short against the Wildcats and fell 36-23. Newport has struggled against the Wildcats recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Juniata managed to keep up with the Rams until halftime last Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Juniata ended up on the wrong side of a rough 51-29 walloping at the hands of the Rams. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Juniata has scored all season.
Newport has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Juniata, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
Newport was dealt a bruising 49-19 defeat at the hands of the Indians in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Juniata's Ava Shearer, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Now that Newport knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
