The Vista Ridge Rangers will challenge the Hutto Hippos at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Vista Ridge put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 44-10 victory over Manor. Given the Rangers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 659th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Vista Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Quinn Szczytowski, who rushed for 147 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries. Those 147 rushing yards gave SzczytowSki a new career-high. Jonah spikes was another key back, rushing for 131 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Vista Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 399 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 64.8 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five games they've averaged 233.3.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Hutto's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 44-34 to Vandegrift. Despite 75 more yards than the Vipers, the Hippos couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Vista Ridge will need to focus on slowing down Jaiden Fields, one of several Hutto players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 236 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Fields' receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 118 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Keilan Chavies, who gained 206 total yards and two touchdowns.
The win made it two in a row for Vista Ridge and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.5 points over those games. As for Hutto, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-2.
Vista Ridge beat Hutto 38-31 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Do the Rangers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hippos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
