Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Franklin County's Winning Streak

Franklin County easily dispatched Bell last Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Franklin County Seahawks fell just short of the Cottondale Hornets by a score of 65-62 on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (59), the Seahawks still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Franklin County still got an impressive performance from Sadiq Jones, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in boards. Dre North was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points.

Cameron Odom was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 10 on his way to 21 points in addition to six assists and six boards for Cottondale. Odom has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tramond Collins, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds.

With the loss, Franklin County broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-2. As for Cottondale, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.

Franklin County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-53 win against Graceville on the 28th. As for Cottondale, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-55 defeat against Port St. Joe on the 28th.
