Baseball Game Recap: Groves Rebels vs. Islands Sharks

Groves had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-17 to make it 11. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 16-0 to the Islands Sharks, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sharks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Tuesday.

As for Islands, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-17. The result was nothing new for the Sharks, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Islands' part, Marlon Zaragoza was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Zaragoza also tossed no walks, which is notable because Islands is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 10-16 otherwise. Zaragoza was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Andrew Harris, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Groves does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Islands, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jenkins County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
