Basketball Recap: Selma Bears vs. Dinuba Emperors
Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Dinuba Emperors 71-29. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 695th, while the Emperors are ranked 216th).
Loss or not, Selma got some senior leadership from Avnique Gill and Daviana Chavez. Gill went 5-for-9 on her way to 11 points and six boards, while Chavez posted eight points and three steals. Gill also brought in his first three-point shooting accuracy of the season.
Leading Dinuba to victory were Jalissa Espirito and Samantha Gonzalez. Espirito put up 22 points along with seven assists and seven steals, while Gonzalez went 6-for-11 to rack up 17 points in addition to seven steals and six assists. The contest was Espirito's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Kathryne Forbes was another key player, as she made all 5 shots she took for 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.
Selma's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Dinuba, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-5.
Selma has already played their next game, a 49-43 win against Kingsburg on the 11th. As for Dinuba, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 55-35 victory against Mission Oak on the 11th.
