Recap: Bentworth Bearcats vs. Avella Eagles
The Bentworth Bearcats can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 53-43 victory over Avella. This was payback for Bentworth, who suffered a 50-29 loss the last time these two teams met.
Leading Bentworth to victory were Kayla O'dell and Amber Sallee. O'dell scored 17 points, while Sallee scored 18 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Sallee has scored at least 25% of Bentworth's points. Another player making a difference was Jesse Laskey, who scored eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Avella lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ava Frank. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. The game was Frank's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Haleigh Rush was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Avella were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Bentworth's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Avella, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-6.
Bentworth will finish 2023 at home by hosting Propel Montour at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Propel Montour has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Avella and McGuffey will face off at 8:00 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
