Basketball Recap: Sylmar Takes Down Monroe in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Sylmar walked away with it. They really took it to the Monroe Vikings for the full four quarters, racking up an 81-5 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-3.

Sylmar was led to victory by Isabella Gonzalez and Yaneli Zuniga-Hernandez. Gonzalez went 15-for-25 en route to 34 points along with five boards and five steals, while Zuniga-Hernandez went 10-for-18 on her way to 25 points and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gonzalez has scored at least a third of Sylmar's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Audreena Bernal, who posted five points.

The victory made it two in a row for Sylmar and bumps their season record up to 6-12. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 64.5 points. As for Monroe, they dropped their record down to 0-13 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Sylmar will face off against Lakeview Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lakeview Charter will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Sylmar surely won't give up without a fight. Monroe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
