Softball Recap: Horizon Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

It was a Battle of the Birds when Horizon challenged Frederick on Tuesday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Golden Eagles. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Kaiya Barela spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Larrissa Arvizo was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Regan Glaza was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Horizon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Horizon is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Frederick, they moved to 10-4 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Horizon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-5 victory against Niwot on the 18th. As for Frederick, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 14-2 win against Fairview on the 18th.
