Baseball Recap: Morton Victorious

Morton posted their closest win since April 24th on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Washington Panthers 3-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 on Tuesday.

Camden Taylor tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Morton's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jude Parnham, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Morton and bumps their season record up to 21-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Washington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 22-11.

Morton and Washington should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Potters will challenge Morris at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (88 vs. 221). Meanwhile, Washington (ranked 51st) will meet Rock Island (ranked 352nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
