Basketball Recap: Woodland Takes a Loss

Woodland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were dealt a 68-17 loss at the hands of the Woodland Christian Cardinals. The Wolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.

Woodland lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Madilyn Watkins, who posted four points and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Zoe Byrd, who scored three points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Woodland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.

Woodland Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keziah Maldonado-Lemus, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists. Maldonado-Lemus' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Siena Sorbello was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Woodland's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Woodland Christian, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.

Woodland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-42 loss against El Camino on the 24th. Woodland Christian has also already played their next contest, a 76-24 victory against Mesa Verde on the 24th.
