Baseball Game Preview: Southview Cougars vs. Whitmer Panthers

The Southview Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Whitmer Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Perrysburg hit Southview with a five-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars came up short against the Yellow Jackets, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Cougars couldn't push the score so high this time.

Whitmer came out on top against Lake on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Panthers blew past the Flyers 8-1.

Drew Brindley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Colsen Nichols, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Domo Arent, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Whitmer's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-9-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Southview, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season.

Southview couldn't quite finish off Whitmer in their previous matchup back in April and fell 8-6. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
