The Schurr Spartans will challenge the Bell Gardens Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bell Gardens will be up against a hot Schurr team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Spartans claimed a resounding 42-7 victory over Montebello. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.

Schurr's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyler Higashi led the charge by rushing for 138 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Higashi a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Torres, who threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes.
Schurr's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. Montebello's QB won't forget Alberto Chavez anytime soon given he sacked him four times.
Meanwhile, Bell Gardens was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Mark Keppel 43-6. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Lancers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 459th, while the Aztecs are ranked 1022nd).
The critical scores for Bell Gardens came from Ian Pablo, Alonzo Ruiz, Bryant Rios, Jonathan Castellon, Angel Contreras, and Andres Espinal.
Schurr's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Bell Gardens, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Schurr has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bell Gardens struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Schurr against Bell Gardens when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 49-7 win. In that matchup, the Spartans amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
