Baseball Game Preview: Aquinas Fightin' Irish vs. Westside Patriots

For the second straight game, Aquinas will face off against Westside. The Fightin' Irish will welcome the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Aquinas got the win against Westside by a conclusive 10-4. Considering the Fightin' Irish have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

James Sherry made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Aquinas' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, CJ Johnson was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Jim Franklin was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Westside's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-12. As for Aquinas, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
