Football Recap: Cuba Comes Up Short

Cuba extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were beaten by the Tucumcari Rattlers 40-0. The Rams lost against the Rattlers in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 29-14 score last time.

Richard Lovato threw for 58 yards on six of ten attempts. Marcos Casaus was his top target, picking up 26 receiving yards.

As for Tucumcari, they now have a winning record of 3-2. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their ten-point performance the match before.

Tucumcari's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nick Geon, who threw for 171 yards and five TDs, and also rushed for 64 yards. The Rattlers' leading receiver Luis Archuleta was Geon's top target yet again, picking up 69 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cuba will take on Hozho Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The contest will give the Rams their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Tucumcari, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Estancia at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The Rattlers will be up against the Bears' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
