Basketball Recap: Big Valley Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Kailey Rivera and Anni Boren

It was a good run, but Big Valley Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 48-39 to the Gustine Reds. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Reds earlier this season, when they won 40-34.

Anni Boren and Kailey Rivera certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Boren went 9 for 22 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight boards and eight steals, while Rivera dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards. That was a full 51.3% of Big Valley Christian's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Gustine's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brooklyn Jackson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of *Shandel Aguilera, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine steals.

Big Valley Christian's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Gustine, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Big Valley Christian will head out to face off against Stockton Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Gustine, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-5 defeat against Buhach Colony on the 11th.
