Softball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Greenbrier's Winning Streak

Greenbrier dropped down to 13-5 on Saturday, ending the team's eight-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Grovetown Warriors, falling 6-0. The Wolfpack were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the five matches prior), but the Warriors' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Grovetown, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Considering they have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Grovetown's part, Greenbrier's batters probably weren't too happy with Josalyn Sergent, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (she gave up three walks). Sergent has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Treasure Story, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in August of 2024. Aerisheya Miles was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Coming up, Greenbrier will face off against Emanuel County Institute at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Wolfpack's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Grovetown, they will take on South Gwinnett at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Comets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.93 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
