Baseball Recap: Walnut Grove Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Walnut Grove). Everything went their way against the Alcovy Tigers on Saturday as the Walnut Grove Warriors made off with a 17-4 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-0 on Saturday.

Ethan Kennedy was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also put up a hit, which washis first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gray Jones, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and one run.

Walnut Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alcovy only posted an OBP of .316.

Walnut Grove's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Alcovy, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Walnut Grove and Alcovy's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Walnut Grove will face off against Newton at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a squad that's only allowed 1.25 runs per game. Walnut Grove's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Alcovy's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Similarly, Alcovy and Union Grove (who has only given up 3.25 runs per game) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Walnut Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
